2006

April 7th: There is no word yet on when Jennifer will make her return to professional tennis. Jennifer, who turned 30 last week, spoke to a Florida newspaper, making it clear that she had no intentions to retire from the sport and was still hoping to come back at some point this year. Jennifer has been hampered by shoulder and wrist problems, and since January of last year, she has undergone four separate surgeries. As a result of not playing for 18 months, Jennifer is now unranked as the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour insists that for a player to have a recognised world ranking, she must play at least three tounaments a year in order to obtain or maintain one. Should Jennifer return to the tour this year, she will have a protected ranking of 10, however, this protected ranking will expire on 10th November 2006. Jennifer's last match on the tour was a 60 61 defeat to the Russian Vera Zvonareva in Philadelphia in November 2004.

2005

Jan 28: Jennifer has had surgery on her shoulder injury in the US. The injury forced her to pulled out of this month's Australian Open for the second consecutive year. It has been reported that Jennifer can resume rehibilitation as soon as five days after the operation. She is expected to make her debut in 2005 in Dubai in the last week in February, or the Pacific Life Open, Indian Wells, which starts on March 5.

Jan 12: Jennifer has pulled out of next week's Australian Open as the shoulder injury she is carrying has not healed sufficiently. It has been reported that she first picked up the injury in the Advanta Championships in Philidelphia in November of last year. She also missed the Hurricane Tennis Grand Slam on December 17th where she was meant to play an exhibition match against Maria Sharapova due to the same injury. Capriati missed the Australian Open last year due to injury. It is unclear when Jennifer will make her return to the WTA Tour.

Jan 9th: Jennifer will not play in next week's Medibank International due to her shoulder injury. It is still not clear whether she will or will not play in this month's Australian Open, which starts on the 17th January.

Jan 7th: Jennifer could miss next week's Medibank International in Sydney, as well as this month's Australian Open due to a sore shoulder. If she were to miss the Australian Open, it will be the second consecutive time she has failed to partake in the first Grand Slam of the year. Jennifer will apparently make a decision tomorrow on whether to play in Sydney next week.
